Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had been taking Minocycline for my acne a couple of years back, but it turned my skin dark in less than six months. I stopped it and started taking ointments. It did not work so well, but it did reduce acne. A couple of years passed, and my face is getting worse again with acne and, of course, scarring. I recently started taking fish oil supplements since I heard it worked to help reduce severe acne. Recently, it started getting worse on my right side. I have been washing my pillowcases and sheets regularly and keeping my phone screen away from my face. I did a blood test to see if I had bacteria and checked my thyroid. What else can I do naturally to help reduce my acne and scarring? Please help.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Hi,

I appreciate you signing up on icliniq.com.

Pimples can be hormonal or due to oily skin. I suggest not using hair oil or any sticky cream on the face. Avoid oily food, chocolates, and milk products. Avoid dust, and use sunscreen with good sun protection (SPF above 30). Do not use any creams or steroids on your face. Continue treatment at least for a month. The use of face wash or soap should be limited. Do not touch the acne, and avoid pressing it. Take the following medication to treat it:

1. Clindamycin (Clintop, Facelin, Clear gel) - This is more preventive and curative, so I recommend using it all over the face in the morning.

2. Adapalene gel (Adalene, Defferine) - Use it over the acne at night.

3. Tablet Doxycycline 100 mg once a day. Consult your doctor and take the medicines accordingly.

Post-acne scars are of three types: box, scar, icepick (pin-point scars), and rolling scars. Pin-point scars are difficult to treat, while box scars are easy. No creams or tablets can help you with scars. The best technique is using a carbon dioxide fractional laser along with a subcision. It takes five to six sittings, but the results are the best when compared to other procedures. Another method can include a derma roller and subcision, but it is less effective than the previous one. Filler has a hiding effect, it fills the pits and gives an impression of fullness. However, it is not permanent. Chemical peels could be effective if scars are not very prominent. These are techniques you can go through. All procedures can take at least four to six sittings and five to six months for good results.

I hope that you get your answer.
