Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I struggle with clogged pores, frequent pimples, and acne, but my main concern is the red acne marks that do not fade easily. My skin is oily most of the day, yet it feels dry and tight after washing my face with a gentle cleanser. I use a gentle moisturizer, but my skin still feels unbalanced.
I am confused about my skin type and unsure if my current products are right for me.
Why does my skin feel oily but dry at the same time?
What changes can I make to reduce acne, control oil, and help the red marks fade without irritating my skin further?
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have read your query and can understand your concern.
Based on your description and the picture (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity), you appear to have moderate inflammatory acne with pustules.
Even though your skin is oily, feeling dry after washing, even with a gentle cleanser, happens when the skin barrier is a bit sensitive.
I will guide you to a daily regimen to manage your problems
Continue using a gentle cleanser twice a day, preferably with a mild, non-foaming cleanser. After cleansing, apply a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer to help reduce dryness and maintain the skin barrier. Even with oily skin, you still need a moisturizer to repair your skin's sensitivity and restore its barrier.
In the morning, apply Clindamycin one percent gel as a thin layer over the acne-prone areas, followed by a broad-spectrum, non-comedogenic sunblock to prevent worsening of redness and acne marks.
At night, after cleansing and allowing the skin to dry, apply a pea-sized amount of Benzoyl peroxide 5 % only on active acne lesions, avoiding the surrounding normal skin. Follow with a gentle moisturizer if needed.
Avoid scrubs, harsh exfoliants, or frequent face washing, as these can worsen irritation and dryness.
With regular use, you will see improvement usually within two to three weeks. If acne persists after four weeks, then you will need to add oral antibiotics. Stay consistent with the routine, and results should gradually improve.
I hope this answers your query.
Please let me know if I can assist you further.
Thank you.
