Can ADHD cause restlessness and fidgety behavior?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I want to ask about my 5-year-old son. Over the past few months, I have noticed some concerning behaviors that have me worried about his mental well-being. He has been extremely restless and fidgety, often struggling to sit still or pay attention for extended periods. I am worried that these behaviors might be indicative of ADHD, but I am not sure how to proceed. I want to ensure that he receives the proper support and guidance he needs, both at home and in school. Could you please advise me on the next steps I should take?

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I can understand your problem and concern about your son. He may have ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder). You must take him to the nearest psychiatrist for a detailed evaluation and further management. If he is using mobile or screen time is more than please stop it. Decrease junk food in his diet. Give him enough sleep and healthy food. Keep away from constant stimulants like electronic gadgets, television, radio, mobile, etc. Teach him to do basic meditation.

I hope this information helps you.

Revert in case of queries.

Regards.
