Which medications can be effective for my persistent ADHD?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I take Vyvanse 60 mg once per day for adult ADHD inattentive type. I have to take it every day, or I cannot function at work. Vyvanse has pretty much no effect on me, though. I might lose my job.

  • If I took a week off of Vyvanse, would it reset my tolerance?
  • Because I might be able to request a week off from work and convince them that I will be back and ready after this adjustment.
  • I have only been on Vyvanse for four weeks. Before that, I was prescribed Adderall 20 mg three times a day. I have been on ADHD medication. Would it work?

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com

I read your query and can understand your concern.

I would like to know if you are using any other substance of abuse, like alcohol or tobacco. Also, I would like to know your symptomatology. Dextroamphetamine has been an efficient medicine so far for attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. But if the response is not satisfactory, it can be stopped as you seem to have developed tolerance to the medications.

I would like to see your EEG (electroencephalogram) report.

I suggest the tablet Oxetol (Oxcarbazepine) 150 mg twice daily, along with the tablet Ativan (Lorazepam) 1 mg at night for a period of two weeks. However, please consult a physician, discuss with them, and start taking the medications with their consent.

You can review it with me, along with your EEG report and detailed history, for further follow-up.

Hope this helps.

Thank you.
