How to manage high BP when medication is not effective?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 31-year-old individual weighing approximately 172 pounds. Recently, I was diagnosed with high blood pressure. My current medication includes Aldomet (250mg) three times a day, Amlodipine 5 mg once daily, Atorvastatin 20 mg, and Hydroxide. Despite taking these drugs, my blood pressure is not dropping. I am unsure about the next steps to take. What should I do in this situation? Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have reviewed your query and understand your concern. In addition to medications, it is important to focus on proper diet control and exercise. I suggest reducing salt and coffee intake as much as possible. Incorporating daily walks after meals can also help in lowering your blood pressure. Avoiding heavy meals and spicy foods is recommended. To better assist you, could you please let me know when you have been taking these medications? Additionally, what is your usual blood pressure reading? With this information, I will be able to provide more specific guidance.

Regards.
