Why do cough, cold, and sore throat last for years?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been suffering from a severe cold and cough for the past few weeks. I also have a bad throat, and there are sores in my mouth, tongue, and lips. I consulted a doctor and he suggested that it was an allergy. I am unable to eat anything, and I have had this problem for many years.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

It seems you have an upper respiratory tract infection or allergic bronchitis. I suggest you do the complete blood cell count with AEC (absolute eosinophil count) to confirm the allergy. I also suggest the instructions mentioned below.

1. If inflammation is severe and there is no improvement, then take a tablet of short-term Betamethasone (corticosteroid) 0.5 milligrams for five days.

2. Avoid excess spicy foods.

3. If oral ulceration is present, then take a vitamin B complex tablet also.

Kindly consult a specialist doctor, talk with them, and take medicines with their consent.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.
