Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 19 years old female. I have had anal fissure. I had surgery before six months. Now I am unable to pass stools. I feel like there is no hole there.

I have had constipation sometimes.

Could you suggest a way to pass stools quickly. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

From your discription, you are most likely having post operative anal stenosis.

If you are having difficulty passing stools, I am afraid, you will need dilation of the passage. If you are having severe distension and pain in abdomen and inability to pass stools right now, probably better to rush to hospital emergency room. There the doctor can usually locate the opening under better lighting conditions, dilate with a tube or a dilator and help you relieve yourself. If by some reason you are not able to rush to hospital or no pain and distension in the abdomen, you can try to evacuate your stools with the help of your finger.

Try putting the tip of your little finger inside. Use some lubricant jelly or moisturizer in the region. Do not force anything, be patient and gentle. Sitting in a tub of lukewarm water might help in locating the opening and the water can soften the stools. Gentle try to push out and try to feel for the opening. Once found the opening, splash water into it with the finger and try to dilate it so that it admits the tip of your little finger. You will be able to relieve yourself in that manner.Hope that helps.

Thank you.
