Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a female with a weight of 150 pounds and a height of 5 feet. I twisted my ankle and sort of heard a cracking sound. It hurts to turn my foot inward. I almost cannot do it at all. It is tender to touch and painful. I can walk on it, but by limping, and that still hurts. It is black and blue but not really swollen. I had torn ligaments in this foot twice. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Kindly tell me if you had the same kind of ligament injury on the outside of your left ankle earlier. If so, what was done then? Do you practice any sport or activity that involves inward movement of the foot? From what I can see, you most likely have a torn ankle ligament sprain, the anterior talofibular. It can be confirmed by clinical examination by a physician, doing an X-ray AP (anteroposterior) of the ankle to rule out any bony injury, and maybe an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan of the ankle. I would suggest that you should restrict putting weight on your foot till the pain settles. Ice also helps with keeping the foot raised. Analgesic and anti-inflammatory tablets will also help. Temporary splinting is also suggested.

Have a nice day.

Regards.
