Why do I feel anxious, overthink, and cry often?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been feeling anxious for the past year. I overthink a lot about many small things and often channel my anxiety into crying. If I become obsessed with something, I start feeling anxious and tend to overthink it. Because of this, I am unable to concentrate on anything.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
Thank you for sharing what you have been going through. Feeling anxious for such a long time, overthinking small things, becoming emotionally overwhelmed, and finding it hard to concentrate can be very exhausting.
Your symptoms seem related to anxiety with emotional stress, especially since you notice overthinking, crying spells, and difficulty focusing when something stays on your mind. This can happen when the mind remains in a constant state of worry or emotional overload.
There are some steps that may help you manage this. These are as follows:
-
Try to include physical activity in your routine; even a 30-minute walk daily can help reduce anxiety.
-
Practice meditation or deep breathing for 15 to 20 minutes daily. Sit comfortably, focus on your breathing, and allow thoughts to come and go without reacting to them.
-
Have a consistent sleep routine and try getting between seven and eight hours of sleep at night, since lack of good sleep may contribute to the problem.
-
Eat healthy homemade food and drink sufficient water.
- Spend time with supportive friends or family and avoid isolating yourself.
- Keep yourself engaged in activities you enjoy, such as reading, writing, drawing, music, or learning something new, as this helps shift the mind away from repetitive thoughts.
- If a particular thought or obsession keeps returning, writing it down in a journal can sometimes help reduce its intensity.
Since you have been experiencing this for about a year and it is affecting your concentration and emotional well-being, you should speak with a mental health professional, such as a psychiatrist or psychologist. They can assess whether this is an anxiety disorder, stress-related condition, or something else, and guide you with counseling or treatment if needed.
With the right support, these symptoms can improve. Please let me know if you also experience symptoms like poor sleep, low mood, panic episodes, or loss of interest in daily activities, as that would help in understanding your condition better.
I hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thank you.
