Can tingling in hands and feet cause ataxia?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 24-year-old man suffering from tingling sensations in my hands, lower legs, and feet, as well as muscle fasciculations that occur randomly in any part of my body. I have developed erectile dysfunction. Additionally, I have had abnormally high arches. This runs in the family on my father's side.

One of my relatives suffered from Friedrich's ataxia with late onset. Can I be at risk of developing the condition? I also have very mild spina bifida occulta, if that is relevant.

Please help me.

Thank you.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.
