Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 46-year-old male, nonsmoker, nondiabetic, with no high BP, and a good echo. I have had paroxysmal atrial fibrillation for 15 years. Episodes were infrequent. In the last six months, I am having more. I take 100 mg Metoprolol Er, and now 5 mg Eliquis twice a day. Now my doctor wants to now take me off Metoprolol and put me on 80 mg of Sotalol twice a day. I am scared of this medicine, and its side effects. Should I be worried? Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query. I understand your concern. Regarding your concern, I would explain that Sotalol is a beta-blocker similar to Metoprolol. Its main adverse effects are bradycardia and fatigue. But, the main problem is that their effects are very similar and I do not think that it will make a visible change in your clinical situation. You should discuss with your doctor on this issue. I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
