Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 46-year-old male, nonsmoker, nondiabetic, with no high BP and a good echo. I have had paroxysmal atrial fibrillation for 15 years. Episodes were infrequent. In the last six months, I have had more. I take 100 mg Metoprolol Er, and now 5 mg Eliquis twice a day. Now, my doctor wants to take me off Metoprolol and put me on 80 mg of Sotalol twice a day. I am scared of this medicine and its side effects. Should I be worried? Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Thank you for your query. I understand your concern. Regarding your concern, I would explain that Sotalol is a beta-blocker similar to Metoprolol. Its main adverse effects are bradycardia and fatigue. However, the main problem is that their effects are very similar, and I do not think that they will make a visible change in your clinical situation. You should discuss this issue with your doctor.
I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
