Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have chronic bacterial vaginosis (BV). My primary care doctor has given me antibiotics, but it was not resolved even after taking antibiotics and vaginal anti-fungal creams. I went to see another doctor, and she prescribed me antibiotics, and nothing changed. I do not know if it is parasitic or will convert to something cancerous. I also have spotting and an unpleasant odor in the vagina. I tried eating and using yogurt vaginally, changing my diet, and drinking plenty of water, but nothing was helpful. It has been four months, and it has not yet been resolved.

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Let me give you a few basic facts about the condition. If you take a second look at the name, it is bacterial vaginosis, not vaginitis. So by using antibiotics, you are causing more harm. It is not a bacterial infection (antibiotics act against bacteria). Every lady has colonies of good and bad bacteria in and around the vagina. They maintain the balance of the secretions, electrolytes, and photo secretions, thereby maintaining an effective barrier for any organism or infection entering the body. But if you keep indefinitely using antibiotics one after another, this barrier is broken, and you are exposed to foreign infection. I suggest the following.

1. Stop all antibiotics

2. No more vaginal douching or antibiotic wash.

3. Have fasting and postprandial blood sugar levels checked. High blood sugar can also cause this problem.

4. Keep the vaginal introitus and surrounding areas clean with inert vaginal washes.

5. Avoid sex till you are entirely better.

(Consult your specialist doctor, talk with them, and take medications with their consent.)

6. Have Lactic Acid Bacillus tablets twice a day for ten days.

7. Give your partner a single dose of tablet Azithromycin 1 gm before food and a tablet of Fluconazole 150 mg single dose after food.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
