Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have developed irritation in my penis for the past few days. There are dark brown or black spots near the foreskin of the penis, causing irritation and slight pain after passing urine. Is it bacterial or fungal infection? Please suggest to me any medicine or preventive measure.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read the query, and I can understand your concern.

You have balanoposthitis. Balanitis is inflammation of the glans penis. Balanitis involving the foreskin and prepuce is termed balanoposthitis. Predisposing factors include poor hygiene and overwashing, use of over-the-counter medications, and nonretraction of the foreskin. The condition can be associated with diabetes, candidal, or fungal infections. For candidiasis, you must test for blood sugar level and KOH mount (potassium hydroxide preparation). I suggest the following treatment: Gently retract the foreskin daily and soak it in warm water to clean the penis and foreskin. You can use a combination of Fusidic acid and Clotrimazole cream twice daily for one month. If balanitis does not respond to topical therapy, take tablet Ketoconazole 200 mg twice daily for two weeks. Consult a specialist doctor, talk to them, and then take the medication.

I hope this will help you.

Thank you.
