Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

How long will a Benzodiazepine that is Valium and Nitrazepam remain detectable through urinalysis? The drug has not been used so long, may be of seven to eight days. What is the best method of detoxification?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com. The duration for the urine toxicology screen being positive depends upon the type of Benzodiazepines being used. In light of the two drugs you mentioned, it may stay positive until a week or so. Regarding detox, there are two different ways of doing it and it depends upon the duration of use. In your situation since it was just seven days of usage, I would suggest reducing your dose by 10% for every three to four days and taper it off. If you are taking higher dose as I am not sure how much are you taking, you may have to taper even more slowly such as 10% per week. The other type of detox requires admission to a hospital and rapid detox with Flumazenil infusion, which I think is not for you since you used it for a short duration and are not addicted to it.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
