Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 34-year-old female and 33 weeks pregnant. My gynecologist has told me to take Betnesol cover, about which I am unsure whether it is required. She says she will plan my delivery after the completion of 37 weeks. Will the baby be fully developed by that time? Will the baby do fine after birth? I had a C-section last year. Please guide.

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Betnesol (Betamethasone) is usually given if delivery is expected between 34 to 36 weeks. At the 37th week of completion, the baby is mature. It depends on the ultrasound if there is any growth retardation or low fetal weight, even at 37 weeks when Betnesol (Betamethasone) is sometimes given.

I hope this information will help you. Thanks.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

How much is the low fetal weight? At the 37th week, what should be the ideal weight of the baby for safe delivery?

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Any baby above 5.5 lbs is considered safe after 37 weeks of pregnancy. Though with neonatal intensive care, 3 to 3.3 lbs babies usually survive. Please take the Folic acid tablets twice daily. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with them, and take the medicines with their consent.

I hope this information will help you. Thanks.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Do my sugar levels also affect my delivery? I have also been told to track my sugar levels. What is the normal level of sugar at this time? Are my sugar levels normal? The sugar monitoring sheet is enclosed.

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Your blood sugar levels, on average, are normal except on occasions that vary due to diet. Fasting should be 92 mg/dL or less, and two hours after lunch or dinner should be 153 mg/dL or less. Occasionally your levels can be above these, but the average is normal, so keep checking. If your blood sugar levels are high, you may have to go for early delivery.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

Can having Betnasol have any side effects on the baby or me? Should it be taken as a precaution, as I currently do not have any signs of preterm delivery?

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. It usually does not harm the baby or mother and is started at least 48 hours before an expected premature delivery. It is better to follow the doctor's advice.

I hope this information will help you. Thanks.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

But I am into my 34th week, and as per the doctor, she will deliver on completion of the 37th week, whereas she is asking me to get the Betnesol cover done right now. What should I do?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

You should follow your doctor's advice.

I hope this information will help you. Thanks.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

As advised by my doctor, I got Betnasol cover done, and I am currently 37 weeks and one day pregnant. I got some blood tests that showed a high level of LDH. What implications does it have on the baby's and my health? I have attached my blood reports for your reference.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

These reports related to the liver are within the normal range found in pregnancy. The normal range given in the reports is for non-pregnant females and males. So if you have no problems, you can relax and talk to your doctor.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
