Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am a 29-year-old female, and there are black and red spots, sores, or red puffy marks on my body, especially on the legs. I have attached the pictures for your reference. I consulted a few dermatologists, who suggested a few creams and medicines, but there were no changes. I have been taking medications for my infertility for the past one and half years. Also, I underwent a few laboratory tests, and the results were normal. I do not have diabetes or any other disease. What to do now?
Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I went through your query and understood your concern. I have seen the photographs, and this condition is known as Lichen planus (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). It presents as itchy, polygonal, flat lesions, mostly seen on the legs, flexor arms, and sides of the abdomen.
The lesions can coalesce together to form plaques. Itching is a prominent feature in lichen planus. The diagnosis is mostly clinical; however, a skin biopsy may be ordered to confirm the clinical diagnosis. Lichen planus has an autoimmune etiology. And, I suggest you to follow the instructions mentioned below.
Treatment of lichen planus involves applying topical superpotent steroids like Clobetasol Propionate cream or Halobetasol Propionate cream twice daily. In case of generalized or widespread lichen planus, oral steroids like Hydroxychloroquine may be administered for some time.
Taking an OTC (over-the-counter) antihistamine like tablet Cetirizine 10 mg once daily would provide symptomatic relief from itching. Kindly consult a specialist, talk to them and take the medications with their consent. Your dermatologist would be able to examine and assess the severity and extent of the disease and advise accordingly.
I hope this has helped you.
Thank you.
