Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I did not know I was pregnant when I got an X-ray of my upper body as part of a visa-changing process. After the X-ray, I started bleeding, and slight stomach cramps were felt. When I went to the doctor and did a blood test, we discovered that I was pregnant with a 645 hCG level. I have been bleeding for two days now. We are going in for a blood test today.

Is there any possibility that my baby will be saved?

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It is not necessary that bleeding starts only due to an X-ray. The product of conception could be vulnerable to abortion due to a woman's medical issues and fetal anomalies.

Go for another test of serum beta hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) after 48 hours of the previous test. If beta hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) is lower than the previous one, it is a miscarriage or a resolving pregnancy. Need a transvaginal scan to check whether you need evacuation or not. Suppose beta hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) shows an increased level (less than 60 % of the previous test). Then it is an ectopic pregnancy (outside the uterus). It requires urgent intervention as it could end up in more severe complications.

If beta HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) shows an increase of more than 60%, the previous test could be a healthy growing pregnancy. Then have a scan after two weeks. As you said, you are bleeding. Go for the test urgently and collect reports and inform here or the local gynecologist. Restricted movements are needed. Do not bear weight. It is better to take a rest. Take folic acid 0.4 milligrams daily.

Thank you.
