Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am a 35-year-old male with thalassemia major trait, and my wife has sickle cell trait, and she is a 34-year-old female. We wish to have a child.
What are the chances for us to have a kid, and is it a safe and advisable option to have a normal pregnancy, or should we go for other options?
Please share your valuable advice.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Do not worry. I am here to take care of you. Regarding your symptoms, I can see that your wife has a sickle cell trait. May I ask what your blood genotype is? If your genotype is AS, then your child has a 50% chance of being a sickler. Although the pregnancy may be normal, the child may be a sickler as well as a thalassemia major carrier, which may worsen the child's health status. The other options that may be determined may yield little success, as these are inherited conditions.
I hope this helps you. Revert in case of queries.
