Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am sexually active with my fiance. We had sex two days before my periods and I had I-pill on both days. My periods were to start but I saw some blood clots in my urine and I am still experiencing blood clots for the last three days. Is this because of I-pill? I am worried. Please help me.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I-pill is a high dose of progesterone hormone, the same hormone that is produced in your body in the second half of the period after ovulation. This pill will suddenly increase the thickness of the inner lining of the uterus, making it unfavorable for a possible pregnancy to implant. As it is a single dose, it has no strength to stand on, so it falls off and you get your period or bleeding of the increased thickness within seven to ten days of taking the pill. This bleeding will be thick, fleshy pieces, dark red, or brown, with slight lower abdominal pain till the bleeding is really reduced. The second I-pill was not needed. you were protected from pregnancy by the first pill and the second pill only delayed the periods. Every lady has ovulation around the 12th to 16th day of the period. The life of an egg is 24 hours and that of sperm is 72 hours. So there is no chance the egg was available on that day of sex and the sperm will not be alive till the next ovulation day. Blood in urine may be the blood from the uterus, from an impending period. So there was no chance of pregnancy anyway. You will have periods seven to ten days later. I hope I have clarified your query, do write back if any more queries.

Thank you.
