Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 24-year-old male. My weight is 165 lbs. I have a healthy diet. I have a habit of drinking alcohol once a month, and I do not have the habit of smoking. I checked my blood pressure, and it was 155 by 65 mmHg. Is it high? Please suggest.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You are slightly overweight. I suggest you reduce taking carbohydrates and fats in your diet. Your blood pressure is elevated. Still, a single elevated reading does not mean that you have hypertension. Taking repeated measurement for at least two to three times, and having your BP high at these measurements, may suggest that you are hypertensive.

At your age, a normal BP should be below 120 by 80 mmHg. BP (blood pressure) is a dynamic parameter. It usually gets elevated after having an emotional upset, anxiety or physical exercise. Repeat your blood pressure measurement soon. Reduce taking salt in your diet. I also advise you do a blood test called lipid profile. An elevated cholesterol or triglyceride level can also cause high BP.
