Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have red dots on the back of my throat and noticed blood in my sputum. I got a laryngoscope done last year after feeling something in the back of my throat. The ENT doctor said nothing was wrong. But now I am spitting up blood. And, blood in the sputum has been increasing over the last week. I am worried. Kindly help me.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern. As per your concerns, it is essential to know whether the blood in the sputum is from the pharynx or the lungs. If you have frequent coughs with blood-stained sputum, then a sputum routine examination, sputum culture, giemsa stain, and chest X-ray should be done. If you have blood-stained sputum only during the morning, it can be due to bleeding from the nose or pharynx. It can be seen due to increased temperature or the use of the heater. So I suggest you to avoid taking hot drinks and food. If it persists, I suggest you to visit a physician in person. I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

I believe it is from the pharynx or the esophagus because I do not need to cough for the blood to appear. When the blood appears, I cough to see if the blood is coming from the lungs, but it is normal color sputum. Also, it does not happen in the morning. It occurs only in the evening after my day is finished. Kindly help me.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Fine. Then, I suggest you to avoid having hot food and coffee during the daytime and stay in the office or home as it can occur during the hot season. Also, I suggest you avoid clearing your throat and blowing your nose. And watch for gastritis symptoms. I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
