Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My daughter is suffering from a boil on her hand. She is five years and ten months old. I am attaching a picture of it. Please suggest a remedy or medicine.
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understood your concern.
Boils are often caused by Staphylococcus aureus (staph bacteria), which normally lives on the skin but can cause infection when it enters through small breaks or scratches.
Recurrent boils or styes may indicate that the child is prone to bacterial infection, possibly due to scratching, poor local hygiene, or nasal carriage of staph bacteria.
I suggest you follow these:
Apply warm compresses to the area for about 10 to 15 minutes, three to four times a day. This helps the boil come to a head and drain naturally.
Maintenance of hygiene is very important.
Do not scratch, squeeze, or pop the boil to avoid spreading the infection to other areas of the body.
Wash gently with mild soap and water.
If the temperature is more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit, Paracetamol can be given for fever control.
Avoid sharing clothes and towels.
It usually takes around one week to heal.
Keep it covered with a clean, dry gauze.
Warning signs:
The boil gets larger, or multiple boils appear.
Redness spreads quickly, or the skin around feels warm, swollen, or painful.
The child develops a fever or tiredness.
The boil does not improve with medication.
I suggest you apply T Bact (Mupirocin) ointment twice daily for five days.
I hope that this answers your query.
Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.
Thank you.
