Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
When I directly touch the point of my middle knuckle I feel a sharp pain. I should make inform you that I box and practice Krav Maga, and this pain started the next morning after an evening session of training moreover that night I felt no pain whatsoever. The pain is only on the direct touch and on the point of the middle knuckle. There is no pain along the middle finger or the last two joints of the finger, and none along the bone running back to the wrist from the middle knuckle. It is not swollen, it is not red or inflamed, and nothing appears to move when I flex the knuckle (as it would appear with boxer's knuckle). It has been only two days since the injury and I continued training as there was a little pain but the pain became more severe after the training sessions. The area near the knuckle is a little tight and stiff this morning, and I can feel it slightly when I grip tight, but my grip is relatively not affected by the injury. I would also like to inform you that I took the tablet Ibuprofen (Advil) 1000 mg.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concern.
This can be due to sports injury to the head of the third metacarpal bone, or injury to the tendon. You need to do an X-ray of the affected hand - AP oblique view. I would like to suggest you stop boxing till you get the X-rays. You can continue taking the tablet Ibuprofen (Advil) 400 mg twice daily after food. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her, and take the medicines with their consent. Apply ice packs twice daily and follow up with X-rays.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
