How to get rid of burning sensation in the hands and feet?
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
My feet and sometimes my hands have a burning sensation. My feet are numb and do not feel a thing now. I have tried nerve medicine, but it is not working. What is wrong with me?
Please help me.
Thanks.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Your symptoms, like burning sensation, numbness in your feet, and occasional hand involvement, suggest peripheral neuropathy, which can have multiple causes, including diabetes, vitamin deficiencies (B12), nerve compression, autoimmune conditions, or even medication side effects. Since Neurontin (Gabapentin) has not helped, further evaluation is needed. I would recommend getting blood tests for blood sugar, vitamin levels, thyroid function, and nerve studies. If the symptoms worsen or spread, consult me for further assessment. In the meantime, avoid alcohol, ensure good foot care, and consider trying alpha-lipoic acid supplements.
I hope this information is helpful.
Thank you.
