Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I travel frequently for work and often stay in hotels, and I recently read about candida auris being found in healthcare settings and even some public places. I do not have any major health conditions, but I do have mild eczema. I am worried about whether my skin barrier could make me more susceptible to infections. Is candida auris a risk for healthy individuals, or does it mainly affect people with weakened immune systems? Should I be taking any precautions while traveling, such as avoiding certain environments or using specific hygiene products?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
I need information regarding the following things:
Are you taking any oral steroid medication or any immunosuppressive drugs for eczema?
Candida auris is a fungal infection that can affect the skin, respiratory tract, and some other organs in the body. If the immunity is adequate, you might not contract a severe form of candida infection. It can be transmitted in different ways. These include:
Direct contact with the infected person.
Indirect contact spreads via infested surfaces like doorknobs, table surfaces, etc.
The preventive measures to be followed:
Frequently hand-cleaning with alcohol-based hand sanitizer (ABHS).
Regular disinfecting of the clothes worn at public places.
Avoid going to crowded places where you can easily get this contact infection.
Carry your bedsheets and towels while traveling rather than using those which are provided by the hotels.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
