Patient's Query
Hello Doctor,
My brother has been feeling extremely tired for several days. He is 35 and usually very active, but he has barely gotten out of bed this week. He has had a constant high fever, reaching up to 104° Fahrenheit, and now he is also complaining of deep pain in one ear. At first, we thought it was the flu, but the clinic called and said his culture tested positive for Candida auris. They mentioned antifungal treatment but did not specify which one or how long recovery might take.
His workplace needs to know if he will be out for a few days or longer. How serious is this infection? Can it spread from the ear to other parts of the body? He is also feeling dizzy now. Could that be related to the infection? What treatments are usually given, and are they effective? Should we stick with the clinic’s plan or consider getting a second opinion?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
The clinic said the diagnosis is most likely Candida auris based on their tests. Based on your brother’s symptoms, such as fever, chills, sweating, fatigue, weakness, and ear issues like itching, redness, and swelling, this infection matches.
For treatment, antifungal medications are used:
Fluconazole 400 milligrams tablets, twice daily for 14 days.
Intravenous Caspofungin 70 milligrams as a one-time dose, followed by intravenous Caspofungin 50 milligrams daily for seven days.
He needs proper treatment, so we recommend he gets plenty of rest and takes the prescribed medications for 14 days.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.
Thank you.
