Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had pain inside my mouth because of a canker sore. After two days, the pain was tolerable but uncomfortable while eating or closing my mouth. I took a photo of the inside of my mouth, and it was a canker sore on the bottom. Instead, it was on the side. It was like a white web. My tonsils had this white spider web-like thing going on, and I do not know what it was.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I am sorry for the problems you have. A canker sour is known as an aphthous ulcer, a very common mouth ulcer. Emotional stress or poor oral hygiene are attributed as common causes. But it resolves itself in seven days. It is painful and makes us suffer during eating or talking.

The picture you sent is unclear (attachment removed for patient identity protection). The white streaks are seen on the left tonsil. The tonsil is inflamed. The surrounding area is red and inflamed. You might have a sore throat.

I can advise gurgling with povidone-iodine mouthwash thrice daily and with warm saline water five to seven days daily. If it does not resolve in five days, you should see a doctor.

Please let me know if you have any questions or want to discuss anything.

Thank you.
