Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My mother is suffering from cataract and severe photophobia. She cannot tolerate light at all. She got kidney trouble due to diabetes. Her vision is also very low. I have a few doubts:
Please guide me so that I can proceed further.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Cataract is an age-related condition. These can result in symptoms like blurring of vision and photophobia. This is curable but only by surgery which is a simple and very fine surgery. Complications rates are very low. I would suggest you get her first retina checkup as she is diabetic. Diabetic changes are seen in the retina and have to be treated first before cataract surgery. Sometimes vision is not less because of cataract but due to swelling in the retina due to diabetes. It is a treatable condition and will regain her vision also. Financial things vary from hospital to hospital as different artificial intraocular lenses are implanted in the eye after removing the cataractous lens. These lenses have different costs. It will be better if you can discuss with the hospital where you are planning for. Do not worry it is a very safe surgery and hardly takes 15 to 30 minutes.
I hope this has helped you.
Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.
Thank you.
