What are the risks associated with CBD gummy?
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am a 33-year-old male who takes 5 mg of Lexapro once daily, 5 mg of Ritalin twice daily, 50 mg of Trazodone once daily, and 10 mg of Lisinopril once daily. I would like to take a CBD gummy that contains 50 mg CBD and 5 mg of THC. Is this a safe combination or what are the risks involved? I typically only use gummies once every couple of weeks, and only ever in the evening when I am in bed.
Thanks.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Using a CBD (cannabinoid) gummy with 5 mg THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) occasionally in the evening is generally low-risk, but some interactions are worth noting. THC can enhance sedation from Trazodone and Lexapro, possibly leading to grogginess or dizziness. CBD may slightly inhibit liver enzymes (CYP450), potentially affecting how Lexapro and Ritalin are metabolized, though this is more relevant with daily use. THC can raise heart rate and blood pressure temporarily, which might counteract Lisinopril’s effect. Since you are using gummies infrequently and at night, the overall risk is relatively low, but watch for excess sedation, mood changes, or heart rate changes. Always start with a lower dose if unsure and avoid mixing with alcohol.
I hope this information will help you.
Thanks.
