Is a small crack above my gum on a premolar dangerous?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My first premolar at the bottom row on the right side has a little indent or crack right above the gum line. Is this cause for concern? I just noticed it, and it does not hurt. I am just worried about the state and strength of my tooth. I currently take Steroids for allergies like Apo-Prednisone and Erolin (Loratadine). Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and the attached image (attachment removed to protect patient identity). I am very sorry for the inconvenience caused.

It is a cervical abrasion and not precisely a crack. Kindly let me know whether you feel any sensitivity.

  1. Try avoiding forceful brushing and brushing in a vertical motion from gums to tooth edges.
  2. Use a soft toothbrush and brush twice a day.

You can easily visit your nearest dentist and get a composite filling done to correct the cervical abrasion, and you don't need to worry about it.

But if it is left unattended, it might lead to caries, and a root canal might be needed. So, kindly get it filled as soon as possible.

I hope it was helpful.

Let me know if you have any further queries.

I am here to help at any time.

Thank you.
