Is IBS related to cervical spondylosis or tendonitis?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I recently saw a rheumatologist and underwent various blood tests. Everything came back negative except for a slightly elevated B12 level. I have cervical spondylosis, De Quervain's tenosynovitis in both hands, and a history of trigger finger. I also have Achilles tendinitis on the left side. The rheumatologist said it is not rheumatoid arthritis, but I want answers as to why I am experiencing these issues, and I am afraid I would not get them. I have a follow-up appointment tomorrow. She did not test me for fibromyalgia, even though I have many tender points. Additionally, I have IBS (irritable bowel syndrome).

Please guide.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for posting your query.

Cervical spondylosis (age-related wear and tear of the cervical spine, causing neck pain, stiffness, and sometimes nerve compression) develops over time due to poor posture and, in some cases, age-related degeneration. There is no specific cause of De Quervain's tenosynovitis (Inflammation of the tendons on the thumb side of the wrist, causing pain and difficulty in hand movement), and rheumatoid arthritis(autoimmune disease causing chronic inflammation of joints, leading to pain, swelling, and potential joint deformity) is not the only contributing factor. It can occur due to overuse, trauma, or a direct blow to the thumb. Achilles tendinitis( inflammation of the Achilles tendon, causing pain and stiffness, typically due to overuse or strain) is also an overuse injury. There is no specific test for fibromyalgia; it is diagnosed through a physical examination, where the doctor checks for tender points. Please attach your reports and provide details of your current medications.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please let me know if you want some help.

Thank you.
