Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been experiencing intermittent pain in my chest, particularly on the right side. The pain comes and goes and is not associated with soreness when I breathe.
I often find that rubbing my chest helps alleviate the discomfort. I am currently taking Ginette 35, along with multivitamins, collagen pills, and probiotics.
Could any of these medications or supplements be contributing to my symptoms?
Kindly suggest.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
The intermittent chest pain you describe, especially on the right side, that improves with rubbing and is not related to breathing, is less likely to be cardiac in origin and more suggestive of musculoskeletal pain (such as muscle strain, costochondritis, or tension-related discomfort).
The fact that rubbing your chest brings relief supports this.
Among your current medications, Ginette 35 (Cyproterone and Ethinyl Estradiol - a combined oral contraceptive pill) is important to consider, as hormonal contraceptives can slightly increase the risk of blood clots, which in rare cases may cause chest pain due to lung involvement.
However, those clots usually present with sudden, severe chest pain, breathlessness, or cough, not with intermittent pain relieved by touch.
Your multivitamins, collagen pills, and probiotics are generally safe and unlikely to cause chest pain.
The treatment and advice that I suggest to you is that, since your symptoms are mild and appear to be musculoskeletal, simple measures such as
Gentle stretching.
Maintaining good posture.
Applying warm compresses.
And taking mild pain relief (Paracetamol or Ibuprofen, if no contraindications) can help.
Try to avoid heavy lifting or sudden twisting movements that may strain chest muscles.
However, if you ever develop sharp or persistent chest pain, shortness of breath, palpitations, swelling in the legs, or pain that worsens with exertion, seek medical attention.
In that case, you should seek medical attention immediately to rule out heart or clot-related causes. It would also be wise to mention these symptoms to your doctor at your next visit, especially since you are on Ginette 35.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
