Does my chipped tooth cause pain due to the exposed nerve?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

The two teeth in the back of the lower jaw, one on each side, have chipped over the years. And now I believe the nerves are exposed, hurting so much. I am 16 years old, and I have no parents or insurance. In addition, I am taking Ibuprofen.

So my question is, is there a remedy to make the pain go away?

Please help, as it keeps me awake at night and has been giving me horrible migraines, affecting my classes.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

As I can see, they are not chipped; they are broken badly (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). They are exposed, and it cannot be treated with a home remedy because the infection will remain the same as now. So, I suggest you visit a dentist and get an X-ray done. As far as a home remedy is concerned, you can rinse your mouth with warm salt water (salt mixed in lukewarm water).

I also suggest using Colgate pain-out gel (eugenol, camphor, and menthol). In addition, take the tablet Ketorol-DT (Ketorolac Tromethamine) once a day by dissolving one tablet in two spoons of water. Also, brush your teeth twice a day and use mouthwash after brushing.

I hope this was helpful.

Kindly update me about the improvements.

Thank you.
