Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had minor red spots on my penis head for the last five months. So I consulted an online general practitioner, who advised me to use 1 % Clotrimazole and hydrocortisone ointment for seven days and to continue using Clotrimazole alone for 14 days. I have been using this ointment twice per day as instructed. The spots had started disappearing, but then I had been out of town for three days, and I completely forgot about applying the cream. After three days, I started noticing the same red spots, so I consulted him again, and he advised me to restart the treatment. Now my yeast infection has disappeared completely. But today, while I was taking shower, I again noticed some red rash along with spots, worse than before. So I had a general health test done two months ago, which revealed no evidence of diabetes. I also had two pints of beer yesterday, and I drink alcohol rarely. So does drinking cause a yeast infection? I also had an STD test to rule out its possibility. I am attaching pictures as well as my health reports. I want to know the reason for the recurrence of these red rashes and spots. Kindly help. Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query. All laboratory reports are within normal limits (attachment removed to protect patient's identity). Please share the pictures of red spots for making a visual diagnosis. The red spots may be because of the over-sensitivity to your soap and toiletries or because of wearing too tight undergarments. I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I reviewed your pictures (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). The condition is eczema of the penis. Presently it is not infected. But I suggest you apply 1 % topical hydrocortisone cream twice daily for three weeks. I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply. So it is not a fungal infection? Can it be cured? Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It is not a fungal infection or STD (sexually transmitted disease). Also, this condition can be cured. I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

So should I check my HbA1c as well? Also, why does this happen often? I am hygienic about washing my intimate parts. Kindly help. Thank you.

Answered by Dr. Filza Hafeez

Hello,

Welcome to back icliniq.com.

You can check HbA1c (hemoglobin A1c) if you have a family history of diabetes. Eczema is not an infection. Instead, the reason for the recurrence is genetics. I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My immediate family members do not have any history of diabetes but what about other relatives? Also, I applied 1 % Clotrimazole ointment, which responded very well, and now there is no more red rash. Are you sure this is eczema and not other fungal infections? Kindly help. Thank you.

Answered by Dr. Filza Hafeez

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Clotrimazole is an antifungal medication, and it also has anti-inflammatory action. I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply. So for how long should I continue Clotrimazole and hydrocortisone cream? Kindly help. Thank you.

Answered by Dr. Filza Hafeez
