I have cold and allergy. Can it cause nasal congestion?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I suffer from a cold all day and night. The doctor says that it is due to an allergy. I tried noticing my daily activities, but could not find anything.

My nose is always blocked while I am asleep.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

For your cold, I can suggest you take a decongestant like Levocetirizine or Phenylephrine for symptomatic relief. To find a causative allergen, I suggest you consult an allergy specialist and get your allergy testing.

You can your self investigate yourself with AEC (absolute eosinophil count), and if it is high, then allergy can be sure. You have to rule out a deviated nasal septum and polyp-like lesions in the nose by rhinoscopy examination.

It can lead to a chronic cold. You can revert with a report and specific questions that you have in mind to guide you further.

Thank you.
