This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have not been getting the stool for three days, and because of this, I have not been able to eat food for three days. What is the reason behind this? Which disease symptom is that? What is the possible medical treatment for it?

Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You seem to be suffering from absolute constipation. If you are not even able to pass flatus, then you need an evaluation for intestinal obstruction. I would advise you to follow:

1. To get a thyroid function test done, as hypothyroidism might be the cause behind the constipation that you are having.

2. To take a Laxative like Lactulose at night.

3. To increase fiber in the diet and to take fruits like Papaya, which are bulk-forming.

4. You may alternatively take a tablet. Cremalax (sodium picosulphate) at night as you have been taking.

5. Another thing that you can take is Isabgulla Husk. You can take three teaspoons full at night and as it is bulk-forming. It may help you with your constipation. In case you have already taken Creamalx and are still not passing the stools, then Macrogol (Polyethylene Glycol) sachets help a lot.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
