Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been constipated for four days. I have taken a laxative with very little output. I took an enema yesterday, that is day three, and all that passed was mucus with no blood in the mucus. I keep having the urge to go, and all that is passing is mucus. I have drunk a gallon of water and taken fiber with no luck. I am not on any medications.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I am very sorry about your health condition. What enema did you take? Few enemas may lead to irritation of anal mucosa lead to passing only mucous in stools. Other possibilities for constipation are hypothyroidism, electrolyte imbalance like hypokalemia, low fiber intake, or a sedentary lifestyle. If enema not successful, then need manual extraction. You can use tablet Dulcolax two tablets at bedtime orally may give you a clear passage of stools. So use Igol power to contain artificial fiber, which may give a clear passage of stools. If not successful, use Dulcolax suppositories (inserted through rectum) which are given after excluding the anal passage inflammation.

If not successful, please consult with your surgeon. He will examine and treat you accordingly.

Take care.
