Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had my first Depo-Provera injection three months ago and I am due to have my second in two days. Is it possible that I am starting to have withdrawal symptoms now? Or will they begin after three months? For the past week, I have had similar symptoms when I first began the shot.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

A hormonal contraceptive can have a bit different effects on each individual. It depends on the body's physiology as well as how it reacts. It is better to avoid the long-term use of similar contraceptives. If you start taking contraceptives instead of Medroxyprogesterone then it might be possible that you would get fewer symptoms due to other hormone presence. Withdrawal should not be severe, just light mood variations or breast engorgement or might be unscheduled bleed other wise it should be normal if you start another contraceptive.

Best of luck.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
