Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I took an emergency contraceptive within the recommended timeframe after a specific incident. Following this, I experienced withdrawal bleeding but had no subsequent menstrual period. Despite conducting multiple urine pregnancy tests, all of which were negative, I am uncertain about the possibility of being pregnant and would appreciate your opinion on the current situation. Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Menstrual irregularities in your case may be attributed to the hormonal imbalance caused by the contraceptive you took. Since you took the contraceptive on time, the likelihood of pregnancy is minimal. Abdominal pain and white discharge could be side effects of this contraceptive. There is nothing to worry about as some individuals may experience withdrawal bleeding due to the sudden cessation of hormones. The timing of your next period might be a bit unpredictable due to the hormonal imbalance induced by the contraceptive. It could come earlier or be delayed by about a week. I advise you to be patient and monitor the arrival of your menses. If your period is overdue by seven days, consider taking a home urine pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy.

I hope this helps. Feel free to contact me if you have any further queries.

Thank you.
