Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My menstrual cycle was expected to begin recently. However, I noticed a slight discharge along with cramps, which initially made me think that my period was starting early. This was followed by a heavy discharge one evening, but after that, there was no further bleeding. It is important to note that I had protected sexual intercourse, and as a precaution, I took an emergency contraceptive pill (I-pill) within 24 hours following the sexual encounter. I am uncertain about the cause of these symptoms. Despite experiencing cramps, there has been no menstrual bleeding this morning. Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It appears that you engaged in sexual intercourse during the potentially unsafe phase of your menstrual cycle. To better understand your situation, please answer the following questions:

  1. When did you have your last menstrual period in the last month, and was it a normal period?

  2. Have your previous menstrual cycles been regular?

  3. Regarding the discharge that you experienced on the mentioned dates, was it a heavy watery discharge, or did it contain blood?

  4. Do you typically experience abdominal cramps during your menstrual periods?

To address your concerns, I recommend you wait for three to four days and then perform a urine pregnancy test using your morning urine specimen. Once you get the test result, please share the picture of the result. This step is essential to rule out pregnancy and provide you with accurate guidance.

Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

My menstrual cycles have consistently been regular. I experienced light and then heavy bleeding on separate occasions, but each event occurred only once. My last period was on time, and the abdominal cramps that I have had recently resemble the cramps I typically experience during menstruation.

Thank you.
