Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a query about possible pregnancy that might happen to my girlfriend. We had this special moment and made it out. To make sure there was no chance of pregnancy I gave her an I-pill after two hours of intercourse. I read the side effects of the I-pill and she did not have any. She felt dizzy yesterday, is it okay or not? Also, her last period got delayed by eight days when we had sex, and it has been 11 days since she is missing her period. Is i-Pill going to delay her period further? How can we make sure she is not pregnant? If she gets her period in the next few days, then there is no chance of pregnancy, right?

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I am good, hope you are also doing well. I have gone through your query and I understand your concern. Usually i-Pill (Levonorgestrel) would not cause any side effects, and if she is having dizziness after two days there must be some other reason like dehydration or something. Emergency contraceptives may delay periods by one or two weeks. So I would suggest waiting for two weeks after her due date, even after her periods would not come, and getting a urine pregnancy test just to clarify, as not all contraceptives are 100 % sure. It would have been better if I would have known her last menstrual date and when you had intercourse.

Hope this information helps you. You can reconnect for further queries.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Her period got delayed by eleven days. So is the i-Pill going to delay her period more? When should we take the urine test because her period is already delayed? What date would you recommend for the urine test?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If her previous cycles were regular then there is almost no chance of getting pregnant. Wait till the month's end even if periods do not come then only do a urine pregnancy test. Stress and recent illness are also reasons for delayed periods. These days PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) is very common if such a thing happens in subsequent cycles ask her to do an ultrasound, pelvis scan, and thyroid profile to rule out PCOS and thyroid disorders.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

She vomited today morning. She spent her whole day having nausea and vomited three times a day. Her lower abdomen area was paining all day. And she had a little fever and a lot of dizziness throughout the day. Is it a side effect of i-Pill? Can I give her medicine for vomiting? How long do the i-Pill side effects last? Does that mean the pill has worked?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Usually, pill-induced vomiting occurs within hours or on the same day, so this vomiting and fever should not be because of the pill. It could be because of food or viral infection.

My advice:

Consult your specialist doctor, and take medications after consulting them.

  1. Take a tablet of PCM (Acetaminophen) 500 mg after a meal only when the fever is there.
  2. Take a tablet of Doxynate (Doxylamine and vitamin B6) twice daily for three days.

Are you sure that there was no intercourse in her previous cycles?

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the medications. Yes, there was no previous history of intercourse. What does that mean now?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If you are sure that there was no intercourse before then this must be because of a viral infection or some food. She is also having abdominal pain right? So instead of taking PCM ask her to take a tablet of Cyclopam (Dicyclomine and Paracetamol) twice daily for two to three days after consulting her specialist doctor. It helps in relieving both fever and pain. If the fever and pain subside in between she can stop the medicines.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

She had vaginal bleeding today morning. Does that mean she is having periods or is that something related to pregnancy or i-Pill symptoms?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

How is the bleeding? Is it only spotting or normal periods like bleeding?

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor, It is normal period bleeding. It was spotted bleeding in the morning when i messaged you, but then she was having cramps and back pain and normal blood flow like her last period. and it is now confirmed that this is period. And after taking I Pill and having period, is there a chance of getting pregnant?
ok good, after getting periods there is no chance of getting pregnant... hope there is no fever and vomiting now... pain could be there for 1 or 2 days.. she can take tablet cyclopalm for that..

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
