What is the treatment for chronic cough?
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I got sick about a week ago. It started with a sore throat, I started coughing, and my nose started running. I had no fever. I am better now, but my cough is hard to eliminate, especially in the mornings. Can you advise me on how to help it go away sooner? I have been taking medicine, Fluimucil granules, an active acetylcysteine ingredient. Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
According to your statement, you have been suffering from a nonproductive or dry cough and want some medications to get rid of this cough. You have already started to use a mucolytic agent called Fluimucil (Acetylcysteine) that can assist in getting rid of sticky and thick mucus and expel mucus to clear the airway. It will be sufficient, but expectorants like Ambroxol or Bromhexine can be added to your current using a mucolytic agent to make the mucus thinner quickly and make it easier to expel mucus. Again, you can take or breathe menthol mixed with warm water vapor three to four times daily to make the mucus thinner along with your mucolytic. So, please continue your current medicine. You can also add expectorants that are mentioned earlier or menthol mixed water vape along with your current medicine.
I hope this information will help you.
Thank you.
