Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My baby is 9 months old. She is often looking by moving her both eyes to the corner, like she is cross-looking through the corner. I identified this cross-looking for the past two months. She had a general eye check-up, but they were unable to identify the problem. She does not have squint eyes, and everything is normal. Why is she often looking through crossed eyes?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

It is important to see a pediatric ophthalmologist to properly diagnose the cause of your baby's crossed eyes. There are a few possible causes, including:

1. Strabismus: This is the most common cause of crossed eyes in babies and children. It occurs when the eye muscles do not work together properly, causing one eye to turn inward, outward, or upward.

2. Amblyopia: This is also known as lazy eye. It occurs when one eye does not develop properly due to lack of use. This can happen if a baby has strabismus or other eye problems that prevent them from seeing clearly.

3. Nystagmus: This is a condition that causes the eyes to involuntarily jerk back and forth. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including strabismus, amblyopia, and certain neurological disorders.

The symptoms of crossed eyes can vary depending on the underlying cause. In your baby's case, the fact that she does not have squint eyes and her eyes are otherwise normal suggests that she may have strabismus or amblyopia. However, it is important to see a doctor to rule out other possible causes. The doctor will perform a thorough eye exam to assess your baby's vision and eye alignment. They may also order additional tests, such as an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) or CT (computed tomography) scan, to rule out other possible causes. The treatment for crossed eyes will depend on the underlying cause. Strabismus can often be treated with eyeglasses or patching therapy. Amblyopia may require treatment with eyeglasses, patching therapy, or surgery. If you are concerned about your baby's crossed eyes, it is important to see a doctor right away. Early diagnosis and treatment are important for preventing vision problems and other complications.

Please get back to some additional things you can do to help your baby's eyes.

Regards.
