Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had a cryo lipolysis procedure done for submental fat a few days back. I am experiencing normal numbness and minor bruising in the affected area. The overlying skin is tender to the touch. My issue is that my lower lip has been weak since the procedure, causing some weird sagging when trying to smile or talk but not noticeable when my mouth is still. It is embarrassing when I try to talk. Is this something that will go away soon? Is this indicative of some kind of nerve damage? Could this be permanent? I am very scared.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

I have a few questions.

1. Is the weakness present on both sides of the lip?

2. Have you reported to your doctor after the procedure got over?

I do not think there would be any nerve damage leading to muscle weakness. It would resolve within a week. I suggest you massage over the affected area which might help. Common complications noted after cryo lipolysis procedure included erythema, bruising, swelling, sensitivity, and pain. These side effects are generally resolved within a few weeks after the treatment.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for your reply.

The weakness is present on both sides of my lower lip. It almost looks like someone is tugging down on both sides of my lower lip when I attempt to smile big or say certain words. I will be sure to massage the affected area. I told her at the time of the treatment that I was experiencing numbness in my lip at the time of the procedure, and she assured me it was normal and would subside soon. I did not realize until the next day that it was not numbness, but actually a weakness in the muscles. I am worried.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I suggest you gently massage the weak areas. I am pretty sure it is not nerve damage and it would recover within a week. I suggest you follow the instructions mentioned below.

1. Eat healthy food in moderate amounts.

2. Do aerobic exercises daily for 45 minutes.

3. Do meditation daily with mindful awareness of yourself and your surrounding.

4. Keep yourself psychologically free as far as possible.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.
