Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
My face, neck, and hands are getting darker day by day. Could you please suggest some products and a skincare routine to help get rid of this?
Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand how distressing it can feel when you notice your face, neck, and hands becoming darker day by day, especially when this is accompanied by acne, pimples, and black spots.
Based on your age, symptoms, and history, the most common reasons for progressive darkening in these areas include sun-induced tanning and pigmentation, an uneven skincare routine, and sometimes early acanthosis nigricans.
In acanthosis nigricans, the skin develops a velvety texture along with darkening in areas such as the neck, armpits, and knuckles, often due to insulin resistance or obesity. In young men, daily sun exposure without protection is one of the biggest contributors, particularly for the face, neck, and hands, which are constantly exposed. I am outlining a step-wise treatment plan to help manage your hyperpigmentation.
The foundation of treatment is a consistent and simple skincare routine, as pigmentation will not improve without proper sun protection. Every morning, gently cleanse your face using a mild, non-foaming cleanser suitable for acne-prone skin. Immediately after cleansing, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to the face, neck, and hands. This step is crucial and non-negotiable. Sunscreen should be reapplied every three to four hours if you are outdoors. Without sunscreen, even the best treatments will not be effective.
For pigmentation and darkening, use G-Peel 6 cream (Glycolic acid 6%) twice a week at night on the affected areas of the neck and hands, and use Ubik Cutis (Lactic acid, Retinol, tea tree oil) on the remaining five nights. Apply Kozicare (Kojic acid, Glutathione) cream daily in the evening to help effectively reduce pigmentation on the hands and neck.
Consistency is key, and visible improvement usually takes eight to 12 weeks. You should definitely notice improvement with this regimen.
I hope this has helped you.
Please feel free to reach out to me again for further queries.
Thank you.
