Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have diagnosed with DVT before four months and currently on Xarelto 20 mg once a day. My hematologist has advised me to take six months of Xarelto. However, the literature says three months is enough. My all test results like protein C deficiency, protein S, factor 5, and prothrombin. OCP was the main reason for my blood clot. Should I continue taking Xarelto for three months or six months?

Hello,

Welcome to the icliniq.com.

I should appreciate your awareness of health. For venous thrombosis, anticoagulant should be taken for at least three months. However, when the risk of thrombosis is high then duration can be extended for the next additional three months. So the clinical correlation is needed to decide the duration of treatment. If your doctor has suggested a total of six months duration of therapy, then I would suggest you take it for six months. I hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
