What is the cause of diarrhea in my three-year-old toddler?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 3-year-old toddler has a bad stomach ache every time she has a bowel movement. It has been like that for the past week. Every stool movement,

Her stool is very watery initially, and then long, stringy stool. The more she has to push and squeeze, the severity of the pain becomes.

Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It looks like she has dysentery. So, since she has blood in her stools, you need to show it to your doctor so that she can be prescribed antibiotics like Ofloxacin and Metronidazole. She should also be given a good probiotic. Does she have a fever? Until you get medical help, make sure she passes urine frequently and is not dehydrated. Give her plenty of fluids and oral rehydration solution (ORS).

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

She does not have any blood in her stools.

Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Then it is perfect. So you have access to medicines in your country directly from the medical store. I suggest you give Enterogermina (Bacillus clausii spores), 5 mL liquid, twice daily until you see your doctor. It is a very good probiotic. Consult your specialist doctor, consult them and take medicines with their consent. Oral rehydration solution (ORS) and hydration are a must.

Thank you.
