Can fingering cause delayed periods?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had my periods two months back. Twelve days after that, I had protected anal sex with my partner. However, I took an I-pill for safety. I got my periods again in two weeks. After my periods ended in five days, my partner did fingering after washing his hands with an antiseptic soap wash. It has been almost two and a half weeks, and I have not got my periods. I have a white discharge, abdominal pain, and back pain. Also, I took a pregnancy test, and it was negative. When will I get my periods?

Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

As only fingering was done, and no penetrative vaginal intercourse was there, there is no chance of pregnancy. The pain and white discharge can be due to friction injury during fingering. A delay in periods could be due to a hormonal imbalance due to stress or I-pill. You can wait for a few days for periods or take tablet Primolut-N (Norethisterone) twice daily for five days. Periods will start once the tablet is stopped. I also suggest the below treatment plan (consult a specialist doctor, talk to him or her, and start the treatment with their consent):

  • Take plenty of water daily.
  • Take Syrup Neeri or Citralka (Disodium Hydrogen Citrate) syrup (15 ml in 200 ml water thrice daily).
  • Tablet Meftal spas (Dicyclomine and Simethicone) twice daily for three days.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
