Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 23 years old. I had sexual intercourse with my partner a few months back, and my last menstrual cycle was two weeks before that. I was on oral contraceptive pills and took the pill on the day of the intercourse as well. However, every time after intercourse, my periods get delayed. I have taken multiple pregnancy tests, and all are negative. I also underwent a pap smear test, and the results were normal. Recently, I had an ectropion for which I got treated. I also experience bloating after taking the contraceptive pills. Should I take the tablet Provera to induce my periods? I am worried.

Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Did you take an emergency or a normal contraceptive pill after intercourse? The urine pregnancy test comes negative till you miss your periods. However, a beta-hCG blood test can detect pregnancy early. Pregnancy is confirmed if the beta-hCG levels are more than 5 mIU/mL.

I hope this helps.

Kindly revert in case of further doubts.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the response.

I had taken an I-pill. Should I get a blood test done?

Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

After taking an I-pill, the withdrawal starts in next five to seven days.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Can you please tell me why there is a fluctuation in my regular cycle every time after intercourse? Also, why do I have an infection and bleed after intercourse? Even after having protected sex, I get infections that cause vaginal discharge, itching, and burning. Also, I do not have multiple partners.

Answered by Dr. Sameer Kumar

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The most common cause of irregularity in cycles is stress-induced hormonal imbalance. In your case, you are always shadowed with an innate fear of unwanted pregnancy, which amounts to stress each time, causing a possible hormonal imbalance and delay in periods. The other causes can be hypothyroidism, hyperprolactinemia, or polycystic ovarian syndrome.

Why do I have recurrent vaginal infections?

Answered by Dr. Sameer Kumar

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Vaginal infections post intercourse are most likely transmitted by the partner. I suggest you change the brand of condoms that you are using as it might be causing an allergic reaction leading to vaginitis. Also, the vaginal hygiene can be maintained by using an alkaline vaginal wash.

Can I take tablet Provera to induce my periods?

Answered by Dr. Sameer Kumar

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Tablet Provera will not induce your periods as it is a progesterone hormone supplement like I-pill. It will only delay your periods and support your pregnancy if you have conceived. If you do not get your periods in the next two days, I suggest you get a serum beta-hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) test done.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
