Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My friend had the last period two months back. Ten days later, we had safe sex but to ensure she took I-Pill on the next day. She got withdrawal bleeding a week later.

After that, we did multiple card pregnancy tests and even a Beta hCG blood test. All of them came negative, but still, there were no periods. As she was getting abdominal cramps, we consulted a doctor before a week, and they prescribed Regesterone - 5 mg for five days and told us to wait for ten days for periods to occur. If not, the doctor suggested multiple tests, including the abdomen and pelvic ultrasound.

Now we are scared about the periods. Will it occur or not, and why has the doctor prescribed the ultrasound?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern and will surely help you.

As she has taken the emergency contraceptive pill, the periods should have occurred a month before if she has no history of irregular periods. These days, you people have been under a lot of stress and anxiety regarding pregnancy and conducted multiple tests, including blood hCG. So I feel that stress is the reason for periods of delay. And also, the emergency contraceptive pills are hormone-based, and they have the known side effect of delaying periods. So there is nothing to panic about. I wanted to know the contraceptive method used during intercourse; as you said, safe sex?

Please understand that stress delays the periods for 25 % of females worldwide. So stop worrying. The medicine prescribed to you is for inducing periods as you have not got them as per your regular period pattern. I am sure that you will get your periods soon and not require all those tests. So stay happy, and you shall get your period.

Do not worry. I am always there for you. Feel free to ask any questions or to share any additional information.

God bless.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I meant the use of condoms as safe sex.

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Using condoms is a very reliable way of birth control, and followed by an emergency contraceptive pill, there are no chances of pregnancy. Hence, your anxiety or stress is the delay in the period, and possible pregnancy is not warranted. Just stay happy. You are not pregnant and already taking the correct medicine for the period.

So do not worry about your periods. Feel free to ask any questions or to share any additional information.

God bless.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

As per our earlier conversation, she took Regesterone for five days, and yesterday was the last day of her dose, but for the previous two days, she has been having heavy breathiness. Is this to be worried about. Is there any remedy, or will it get normal with time?

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

How are you feeling now and extremely sorry to hear about heavy breathiness?

Do not worry. Please share other complaints on priority. I am waiting for your update.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

She completed the Regesterone pill doses yesterday. So on the third day of taking Regesterone, she was having heavy breathing and mild dizziness, but no uncomfortness was there. This morning she got slight dizziness again, but she was alright. But till now, she is having heavy breathiness, but she is not in any discomfort with it. Today, we discussed that her natural period cycle is late by an average of eight days every month, so everything made sense.

We thank you for how you cleared our doubts regarding the period's dates, so we are assured the periods will come fine.

I tried to make her happy and motivated. However, she is getting irritated and frustrated due to the lower abdominal and thigh pain that has been happening to her inconsistently for the last 15 days. And also had pain in her abdomen during the five days of taking Regesterone, but we guessed it was due to the pills.

For now, we fear only for the pain and wanted to know when will it get sorted. I relate it to the abdominal scan that the other doctor wrote. We fear as a couple because of the pain, and although I know, she is not pregnant as the report came negative. The uncertainty of periods rushes my mind with different problems.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Thanks for the update. Do not worry. There is nothing to worry about as long as the pain or breathiness is not affecting your daily routine. Ideally, the periods occur within ten days of Regesterone. But I was just wondering whether she was taking one or two pills daily? Also, what is the height and weight of your partner? This will help me better assess her condition and the likely outcome of the medicine dose.

Feel free to ask any questions or to share any additional information. She will be fine. I shall also want to know how she keeps herself busy and away from stress.

God bless.
